Murder the Lover! / Murder the Husband!

You didn't really think we'd allow the passing of legendary comic messiah, Jack Davis, to go by without posting a story, did you? CHOKE! But instead of going the all too obvious route around here with a trip to the Crypt, the Vault, or the Haunt, let's instead lure out the August - September 1952 issue of Crime SuspenStories #12 for a murderously intense, (or did I mean funny?), double blast ending tale that will either give you a real charge, or leave you feeling all wet! It's a story I've probably read 10,000 times in my life and will continue to read 10,000 more.

And once again, farewells and eternal thanks to the guy who made my life of art appreciation and comic book collecting everything-- to the greatest of the greats, the world most certainly will never be the same without you.

The Fantastic Fan

Behind a rather misleadingly tame sounding title, lurks one of the better, and more original satanic stories from ACG's precode 50's terror output. Illustrated by Robert McCarty, "The Fantastic Fan" would certainly be worthy of inclusion in DEVIL TALES VOLUME 2-- if such a volume were ever to exist (*crosses / inverts fingers!) Thanks again to William Zepf for pointing out this tale to me, and for donating the scans as well! FYI: THOIA is always open to submissions, if you've got a good story in mind (preferably one that hasn't already been posted) and want to share your scans here with everyone, just drop me a line.

From the October-November 1954 issue of Out of the Night #17.

The Dry Doom

I was reminded that I've posted every story from the September 1952 issue of Beware! Terror Tales #3 except for this one, also illustrated by Sheldon Moldoff (see our last post.) So we finally actually accomplished something this month and delivered not one, but TWO complete issues of a classic precode horror comic! Check the THOIA Archive for these other doomed yarns: "The Haunting White Shadow", and "Death's Round Trip."

We'll see ya in a few with a fantastic ACG story submission. PS: Anyone at SDCC right now?

Last Express!

Another wonderfully atmospheric, and lengthy horror tale from the May 1953 issue of Beware! Terror Tales #7, featuring super spooktacular art from fan fave Sheldon Moldoff. And for anyone keeping track, this wraps up another COMPLETE issue posted here at THOIA! Check the archives for Dripping Terror, The Walking Cadaver, and our previous post, The Man Who Defeated Death!

The Man Who Defeated Death!

We'll be taking a look at some freakily lengthy Fawcett Publications frights for the new few posts, our first from the May 1953 issue of Beware! Terror Tales #7. A fun bit of info: while the entire story itself was reprinted a few times in the following decade, the actual splash page of this story was recycled as well and used as the cover for a 60's UK reprint series called Voodoo, which apparently reprinted everything from Silver Age Marvel monsteramas to 50's Iger Shop classics (see the last scan.) More Fawcett up next!
